I was introduced into the writing/editing/publishing industry in 2003 when I became assistant editor for a literary journal. The following year I was promoted to editor. From 2004 to 2007 my responsibilities included marketing, submission selection, layout and design, product proofing and distribution as well as working with community leaders and staff to grow the budget.
During college I headed the writing center, editing pieces for students and various college departments, as well as personally tailoring reading comprehension and literary studies for ESL students, academic probation students and those with specific learning disabilities. At this time I also spearheaded three separate informal writing workshops, focusing on poetry and fiction, academic writing and creative nonfiction.
In 2008 I became editor for a weekly newspaper. Responsibilities included writing and editing concise, timely copy, conducting feature interviews, setting schedules/interviews for journalists, personally covering crucial local events, and maintaining the flow of information between community leaders and members of the media as well as among staff.
During 2010 I embarked on a freelance career and was hired by Demand Studios and Textbroker to provide clear copy to a variety of clients, simultaneously upholding site style guidelines while custom-tailoring the articles to specific needs.
