Service Description

I graduated from California State University, Stanislaus, with a bachelor's degree in English. After working a few "regular" jobs, I took a position as the sports editor at the Patterson Irrigator, a small-town, twice-weekly newspaper in California's Central Valley. In addition to being the one-man sports department at the Irrigator, I also covered some general news, including features and school board meetings.

A little over a year later, I was selected to move up to the Irrigator's parent newspaper, the Tracy Press. I started there as a sports reporter but was quickly groomed to replace the sports editor, who was leaving to pursue another career. At that time, the Tracy Press was a daily paper, and I oversaw a sports department that included two reporters and eventually grew to three. While I was there, the Press took second place for sports coverage from the California Newspaper Publishers Association.

After a short stint as a sports copy editor at the Modesto Bee, where I designed and laid out sports pages, I took a job with the Contra Costa Times, covering high school sports as well as designing sports pages. I won an award there for headline writing and had multiple stories land on both the front page of the paper and of the sports section. I later returned to the Patterson Irrigator as managing editor, a position I currently hold.
