Service Description

JE Edwards Art & Design is the name of the freelance graphic and web design firm of Joseph E Edwards VIII (formerly Coriolis Art Works, founded 1996).

With 13 years of professional freelance illustration, print and web design experience, I have developed a broad skill-set that allows gives me the versatility to take on a wide variety of projects -- from graphic novel illustration to PHP-based web design.

At present, I am most interested in projects involving illustration -- particularly sequential art for graphic novel or comic book formats. I have experience working from a script, and collaborating with writers and editors, to produce sequential art (see my portfolio). My artistic background is in fine art, including painting and drawing, and I bring this sensibility to my sequential art projects.

In my approach to sequential art, I seek to capture the characters, mood, and story by developing these elements in collaboration with the writer/editor and maintaining consistency from panel to panel. I see the panel as a camera, and try to give my sequential art a sense of drama through both the story and the art.

I also follow the industry standard practice to create the final print-ready page in digital format: Working from a script, I first draw character sketches and storyboard, then go back to the writer or client to make any changes before starting on the pencils.
