I have spent my entire adult working life in the information and knowledge management industry, working at Predicast (at the time the largest on-line business information system company in the world) and then Ernst & Young LLP.
Recently my focus has been in "sanitizing documents" (or cleansing, scrubbing). Sanitization is evaluating and removing sensitive information from client deliverables to protect the identity of the client. For example, a consulting (or other professional business firm) writes a proposal and wins a job with a client. I then remove all of the client identifying terms so that the proposal and any other client deliverables (final reports etc.) can be reused. Sanitizing would make them generic case studies that can be shown to future clients as examples of the work the consulting firm has done that might match the needs of future clients. In the case of sanitizing proposals, this would allow for a quick turn around time for writing new proposals for future clients in a similar industry or similar situation. In the case of sanitizing deliverables, this would allow for a broader distribution of the report, to show future clients examples of work done for past clients.
