With my 17 years of experience teaching English and as a lead English teacher and teacher trainer, I have extensive experience creating curriculum and assessment for both English language arts and social studies that aligns to state standards, such as the Common Core standards, and is performance-based, differentiated, and interdisciplinary.

I have a Masters in Education with a specialization in Teaching English as a Second Language and am well suited to the tasks of writing curriculum for English language arts and social studies as well as writing and editing academic manuscripts. I have taken courses in curricular design (in addition to curricular design, assessment, and instruction for ELLs), assessment, instruction, differentiation, and learning theory and am credentialed by the state of California to teach English to both native speakers and students with limited proficiency in English. I speak Spanish, but not fluently.
Service Description
1) Curriculum writing aligned with the Common Core standards - performance-based, differentiated for all learners, and interdisciplinary from a former lead teacher and National Board Certified Teacher in the California public school system.

2) Writing and editing manuscripts, including academic papers in APA format

3) SAT reading and writing lessons via Skype

4) Reading and writing intervention lessons via Skype - The reading lessons are fun and engaging and involve fluency work with repeated reading of plays combined with comprehension work. Two or three lessons a week for a few months combined with reading interesting lower level/higher interest books on one's own can dramatically improve a student's reading grade level equivalent score. For students with learning disabilities, I utilize research-based interventions within the lessons to help the student overcome the reading difficulties.

5) English as a Second Language lessons via Skype - I have created 6 levels of ESL/EFL lessons (Students around the world have taken my EFL lessons via Skype!) based upon interesting and engaging documentaries designed to improve the academic English that one uses in business and academia. The lessons utilize systematic vocabulary and sentence construction instruction and allow students to extensively discuss the documentary and make connections from the documentary to their own culture. The lessons are designed to help students be able to think in English. Extra engaging resources are always provided to allow students to read interesting fiction and non-fiction at their current English reading level. I also provide extra multimedia resources pertaining to the documentary's topic, giving additional, engaging practice reading, listening, and writing in English beyond the lesson hour.
