The goal of this job is to gather data on companies that provide services to marijuana dispensaries from the following five websites. Each website/directory is a little different in terms of what information it provides. I want the data to be put into Excel.
I do not know if this project is easiest done by programmers (web scrapers) or copy/past...
Skills: data scraping, web scraping
“The end work product was good, but it took 10 days longer than proposed (3 days turned to 13). Given that they said they had multiple people working on a the project, I did not think they were bidding overly aggressive as it related to how quickly they could do it, but perhaps they did not look closely enough at the job before bidding. There were some technical problems (being in India, they had trouble accessing a North American website) that accounted for perhaps a 2-3 worth of extra time, but not 10 (in my opinion).
On June 5th (due date), they sent me a message stating "We are working on the list, its almost completed. We will submit the file by tomorrow." When I did not receive anything, I messaged them again on June 7th and they replied "We have completed the file, we will cross check it out and submit it within the end of this day." I finally received file(s) June 8th and they were far from being complete or accurate. I was going to cancel the job completely, but they convinced me to give them more time to finish the work and correct the issues. I gave them more time and, eventually, they got me all of the work.
All of this being said, they did eventually get me complete, accurate work, which I know I can use for my needs. They were polite and respectful with all communication.
So, depending on the size and complexity of the job, they can be a good solution. But for larger jobs that need to be done perfectly, quickly, I would suggest paying the premium for a skilled programmer/script writer. While I was waiting for them, I hired a programmer who scraped everything that I needed in two days perfectly (for 2.5x the cost).”
