While I muster the courage to publish my original work, I've been writing catchy and informative promotional articles for a newspaper and, as a teacher, attempting to engage bored teenagers in the study of words and the power of the well-written ones. I am a visual artist by nature and tend to approach writing and editing from that frame of reference -- recognizing that the printed word is as much a visual medium, as a strictly auditory or cerebral one.

1. Business owners need to reach their target markets and appeal to potential ones. A real challenge is to define their mission and product, and then effectively communicate that in an efficient and cost-effective manner. Finding the right "hook" for each market is a most necessary piece of the puzzle.
2.A good promotional piece packs a great deal of information into as few sentences as possible. The sentence structure is varied and the paragraph(s), short. If it's too long, it won't be read. A catchy title, and a focused lead statement/question is the way to encourage readership of the entire piece. Separate contact information from the marketing to facilitate access to it.
3. Poor writing composition and mechanics are an immediate deal-breaker. Presenting a load of "come-on" with few specifics is also a problem. Failure to make good use of a thesaurus or popular language, when appropriate, defeats...
