Overview

I'm a professional novelist, essayist, book reviewer, and fiction and nonfiction editor and writer. I work fast, carefully and with enthusiasm, whether I'm editing a novel or writing a press release.

I started my career as a fiction writer (two novels and a memoir published, all New York Times Notable Book of the Year; the novels translated into other languages), and storytelling is in my blood.

I offer creative, in-depth story analysis to fiction writers. When I work on non-fiction, including promotional material, my narrative skills and...

Service Description

I do copy editing, developmental editing, proofreading and ghostwriting for fiction and nonfiction writers. I can write promotional articles, edit professional book reviews, and personal essays and proofread or polish any kind of writing. I offer in-depth critiques of fiction and nonfiction: literary, popular, sci-fi, fantasy, paranormal, mystery, thriller and YA. I also enjoy collaborating with fiction writers to improve dialogue and description.

I can follow APA, or Chicago Manual of Style guidelines, and am familiar with UK (Oxford) English spellings, grammar, and conventions. I also understand how fiction writers use language, and can tell the difference between poor writing and intentional use of sentence fragments, run-on sentences or repetition. If Iím not sure, Iíll ask!

NONFICTION
I've written articles for The New York Times and The Las AngelesTimes, among others; been a freelance writer and editor of fiction and nonfiction for a decade; and am currently working at The Cathedral of St. John the Divine, writing and editing the newsletter, pamphlets, grant applications and publicity material. The Cathedral has a large number of well-attended events every year and is active in social services and the arts, so my work is varied and held to high standards. I can adapt my tone to your voice and organization, and suggest strategies to keep the reader's attention. I have a quick mind, a wide range of knowledge, and I enjoy research.
