I am a native French and English speaker. Yes, that is possible: the luck of the draw, or of birth in this case, as my mother is French, and my father British. Furthermore I have lived for nearly 20 years in the United States, and over 20 in France. Both languages have been in constant use, and served my employers and me well throughout my professional life.
I have finally made the jump to full-time free-lancing, although I have been working part-time as a freelancer for years. As such I have done writing, translating, and proofreading jobs in different corporate fields, ranging from pharmaceutical companies, to insurance companies, through to international organizations.
Prior to that I was in-house translator for a biotech company. As such I dealt with any communication material that needed to be translated, or proofread, be it business presentations or scientific articles. I was also responsible for writing any in-house communications, for the content of our intranet, and with company locations in the USA, France and Germany, their adaptation to our multicultural base.
For ten years I was employed by a multimedia games creation company at the advent of CD-ROMs and the internet.
