This project will involve the development of an e-commerce website that will be selling baby bedding and accessories. The final site will consist of roughly 300 products and a custom bedding design interface. I am posting this here to get prices for a final proposal I am putting together for my client.

“I'm not really sure how to sum up my experience with this contractor. On the one hand this project, the development of an e-commerce site for an established retailer, was a complete disaster. On the other hand, they worked hard and tried desperately to fix the mess that was created.
They convinced me to use Magento to setup the site. Magento was horrible and the site was full of bugs. They told me that the site could run on GoDaddy and it absolutely couldn't without a dedicated server. The launch was delayed repeatedly due to their mismanagement of the systems.
I don't want to be too harsh because I was too trusting and should have been more conservative with the project. I shouldn't have had a permanent option for the development. i should have been able to fire people along the way. This was, by far, the worst experience I've had on Elance. That's not 100% Browsewire's fault, but it's close.
On my end, the initial development of the site, the designs, everything took forever. They had to wait patiently for information. So I do appreciate that. All in all, I will never just hire someone to do something like this again. In the future I'll diversify my resources so if one is under performing I can get rid of them. And I will never use Magento again. that was terrible.
I thank them for their time and effort. I am grateful for that. In the end we didn't even use the site that was developed. I have to sort of start from scratch and redevelop my clients original site. What a pain.”
“Though it's been a quite good to work with client overall but long delay and last minute fire fighting has created if there is so called problem, though we have made the site live and it has been working pretty well.
1. Client took forever to get project details together when we were assigned the project. In fact major project scope/design studio was never evaluated and paid for.
2. We got appreciation for fast work and responsiveness all the time but then suddenly there was a need to make dev version live over weekend because client's current site was hacked. Which we tried but was not feasible to client's shared hosting account with godaddy.
We had advised to use a VPS with godaddy or any other hosting provider but maybe client did not understand the technicality. Dedicated server wad never asked for as mentioned above.
We can or should not be blamed for things that happen over client end and servers because if we had got proper time and intimation to make site live proper with time for testing any minor problems like URL redirects would not have happened. So in the end it is just sad to hear that it was our fault while client is not willing to understand the technicality and other important aspects of making any site live.
We wish him luck and suggest to better plan and communicate with any contractor than just blaming on others not to deliver.
Freelancer Feedback Comments for Client:
“Overall not a good working experience as client lacks planning and proper timely communication. Also does not understand the technicality of the dynamic ecommerce website creation since he himself is a web designer only.
We were never paid for the design studio that was originally asked for a created by us as he called it off abruptly after 5 months of waiting for details.”
