I joined Breckland District Council in June 1995 as an Admin Assistant, and I was promoted in May 1996, June 1997, and finally, in 2001, to Senior Committee Manager.
I provided committee administration support to a variety of Committees, primarily the Cabinet (lead decision making body of councillors).
I played a key role in implementing fundamental changes to the democratic process following the introduction of the Local Government Act 2000. This included developing the Forward Plan process, reviewing report and agenda format, developing councillor 'job descriptions', and developing the Team's Service Plan.
I wrote and edited content for the weekly Information Bulletin for Members.
I was a founding member of the Staff Newsletter Editorial Team. As part of this team, I worked to get the newsletter established, developed the format and ensured that it was published monthly, in addition to the day job. I also wrote articles and edited content submitted by others.
I was also a member of many corporate groups, including the Job Evaluation Panel, the IS/IT Lead Officer Group, the Information Systems Project Board, the Website Development Team, the Performance Appraisal System Development Team and a project team carrying out a corporate project prioritisation exercise.
