It should also be visually comfortable, and let the content shine. And, of course, it should fit the feel and values of the product, service or subject of the site.

I have five years web design experience, having worked both as a freelancer, and as lead designer for a small web development agency. I have worked with professionals from all the fields related to web design, from marketeers to information architects to developers, and am happy working alone or as part of a team.
I love web design because it allows me to use both sides of my brain, and most of my interests. The design side meets my need to work creatively. The coding side allows me to use my left brain as well. I have a degree in psychology and a foundation degree in art and design, and love that web design exists in the space where the two meet: understanding the way that line, colour and structure affect our experience. The visuals makes all the difference to the way someone takes in content; a good design makes complex content digestible, shows the visitor clearly how to find what they need, and conveys concepts and feelings without words.
I take a lot of pride in what I do, and always produce the very best work that I can. I am self-motivate, organised, professional and responsible, and deliver on time - or before time, if at all possible. I also have excellent attention to detail.
As for my non-design life, I travel regularly and dance obsessively, both of which keep me inspired and full of ideas!
