This project was not particularly challenging from a technology perspective however the challenges came from managing each individual business user’s expectations while running multiple migration strands concurrently. Additionally where users were new to SharePoint 2007 I undertook training sessions introducing the new technology as well as providing support and development of customizations and new features where required both at the backend as well as at the client side. In parallel I also assisted with a number of other projects: Worked with the Business Intelligence Team to deploy and configure Cognos Web Parts. Stiefel Laboratories Inc
SharePoint Consultant & .NET Developer
2007 - 2010
Initial engagement to provide leadership, consultancy and management for the corporate worldwide portal built on the BEA Aqualogic platform. After a review of current and future business requirements, technical platform, available resources, plans and goals a strategic review of the organization’s requirements for a portal platform and a re-assessment of the technology to deliver the correct solution worldwide were undertaken with a subsequent recommendation to move to SharePoint. Following the establishment of a pilot program and proof of concept a number of meetings with global key business stakeholders and their representatives were held in focus groups to present the capabilities of the SharePoint platform and educate the business to the possibilities available to them. During these sessions business requirements were captured and analyzed along with the desires the business had for a portal a solution. At the same time design and deployment of the infrastructure, security and WAN/LAN requirements for production, QA and development environments was progressed which involved working with internal project management. Governance, facilities, communications and quality assurance project stakeholders as well as managing external vendors and consultants. Once the infrastructure was planned out and being deployed the portal design and taxonomy was also being planned out together with a plan for the migration of existing content from the original BEA AquaLogic portal as well as additional SharePoint 2003 repositories that existed from previous commercial acquisitions. From the initial proof of concept, through design of both a portal publishing environment as well as a team collaboration platform and partner extranet I contributed to the design and development of both server and client side customizations for the platform as well as developing solutions to meet the specific requirements of individual functional areas. This was a complex, global project with a user community of over 3000 in all time zones and called for flexible availability as well as requiring the management and leadership of a wide variety of team members located around the world and from a broad swath of backgrounds together with a hands on, can do approach to delivering business solutions. As a highly visible project with a budget in excess of $1.5 million within the organization I reported directly to the Enterprise Leadership Team and senior executives on a regular basis. Post-implementation I worked with a variety of business users both assisting with their publishing requirements as well as developing team-based solutions and SharePoint applications; these solutions varied from standard out of the box sites, sites with client side page customization using CSS, jQuery and JavaScript, more complex applications requiring server side customization of event handlers and bespoke web parts etc to utilizing Business Data Catalog to connect to legacy SAP, Documentum and other systems. Additionally I have been responsible for the establishment of a Proof of Concept environment to evaluate SharePoint 2010 beta technologies and the feasibility of migrating to this platform once it is released to leverage such features as Access Database Services and PowerPivot technologies as well as the enhanced Business Connectivity Services for integrating and mash-up of legacy systems. Application Development Team Lead responsible for a multi-disciplinary software development team in a global project development environment. With end user customer locations in Belgium, Greece, Portugal, Kazakhstan and India and suppliers from the US and UK, Portugal and India this project demanded attention to detail and clear communication as two of its prime requirements. As well as leading the software development teams in the US and UK working on the implementation of a web-based image archive to enable its airline customers in Greece and Portugal to outsource its passenger revenue accounting function to India the other requirements were to identify and liaise with supplier’s for both the hardware and ISP components of the project as well as with the Indian company contracted for the outsourcing and managing the integration of the web site into their existing systems. In addition to overseeing the design and development activities I was also responsible for business analysis and technical architecture during the start-up phase of the project. The web and databases were hosted on their own dedicated servers and a dedicated NAS server provided image storage. The middle layer business objects were developed in C++/MFC and interfaced to stored procedures in the database to access information. This information was extracted as XML and delivered to the browser via XSL as HTML. Certification and SSL/HTTPS connectivity were employed to ensure the integrity of client connectivity and no active technologies (Active or Java) were employed as this was a primary requirement of the customers Environment: ASP; ASP.NET; C#; Agile/Scrum; SQL/Server.

It is understandable to be reluctant to hire remote associates. The concerns with “out of sight, out of mind” and malingering are valid. The risks associated with this special request are great, especially when considering somebody to fill a role on a time-sensitive project. When Acosta sought some help with a SharePoint migration project, we considered many candidates. Paul’s experience and knowledge made him stand out from the crowd. Yet there was his request that he remain a remote associate. He provided direct references from prior jobs and I followed up on them, interviewing his prior recent managers about his work habits and efficacy. I will tell you the same thing I was told. Paul is extremely diligent in his approach to satisfying his customer’s needs. At no time during our year long engagement did I feel any concern or worry about his connectedness or work results. We tasked him with a demanding project that required interaction with many of our business teams. Paul set up systems to ensure customer communication needs were met and coordinated the workload with our internal IT team. He very quickly became “one of the guys.” The feedback I received from our IT folks and his customers was uniformly positive and without exception. I am more than happy to discuss this maLer with anybody considering Paul for a position. I am confident that Paul can meet the needs for your team and will allay any concerns about working remotely and exceed your expectations with regards to his work quality and communication skills. Please do not hesitate to contact me at jmorales@acosta.com to schedule a meeting should you require more information.

Stiefel Laboratories & GlaxoSmithKline, Global Head of Quality for Dermatology Operations
I’d like to provide a recommenda9on and some background for Paul Bedford regarding his ability to deliver on time and on budget while remotely supporting a project. I’ve had the pleasure of working directly with Paul on several projects at Stiefel Laboratories and GlaxoSmithKline in my role as Global Head of Quality for Dermatology Opera9ons. Paul is extremely knowledgeable, very professional and was instrumental in our implementation of a global SharePoint installation. While the initial scope of the program was to support operations in North America, it quickly expanded in scope to include a worldwide network. Given the success of the planning and deployment phases, there were relatively few operational issues once we went live, but to the extent there were, Paul was always available and able to quickly resolve any issue. He also provided very useful technical support to my group as we extended SharePoint functionality to our external manufacturing partners. Please don’t hesitate to contact me directly if you have any questions or would like additonal information. rlove@harborview.com

Paul Bedford worked with several Stiefel Research & Development groups to develop SharePoint solutions for their business requirements as part of a global portal initiative.
