“This client is the most non serious client on Elance. He does not know what he wants, he disappears for months on vacations and then he has expectations, which cannot be met in the Budget.
When we decided to put our foot down because of his lack ever INCREASING REQUIREMENTS, he RETORTED to BLACKMAIL. Finally, the matter was taken to Elance dispute, which arranged for a dispute assistance call. The timings for the call were given by client. We stayed up late hours to discuss the matter and Client did not turn up for the call. Elance had to send him an invoice for paying legal fees, as the project had now gone to arbitration. Obviously, he did not pay up the fees and steeped up the blackmailing by sending us this message "Now that payment has been released - I am requesting that you return to me 70% of the final payment ($250).
If you are unwilling to do this, I will be forced to leave negative feedback on your profile. Please reply with your intentions within 2 days."
For the record, he did not release the PAYMENTS. They were released, as he failed to pay elance's ARBITRATION fees. We wrote to Elance about this whole matter (if required, we can share the support ticket history and discussion with this client on Elance). Unfortunately, according to elance, if a client pays you, they can give you a FEEDBACK and this is irrespective of DISPUTE, BLACKMAIL or ARBITRATION.
For a company like ours, which has very rarely had a bad feedback on elance or any other portal, this is a complete let down for no fault of ours. I cannot write "DO NOT WORK WITH THIS CLIENT" because he might change his profile and again hire some one but i would like to caution freelancers from working with such clients.”
