Brand identity is an investment and design is not a commodity.
Sure, you could hire a designer to create a logo for $100. In that case you would end up with a logo, but you wouldn't end up with a brand. You wouldn't have something special to represent your products or services and the purpose and mission of your company.
Keep in mind that in most cases the first thing a potential customer sees when he or she visits your website, sees your product, or enters your establishment, is your logo.
Think of brand identity design as an investment. As something that if done right, will pay off year after year for the entire life of a business.
