Residents of the East Corkscrew Road rural community in southeast Lee County say inadequate telephone service in their Estero neighborhood causes a danger to community residents and results in long-distance charges to call other Lee County areas.
Mark Preston, 49, and his wife Lynne built their house on Lazy D Farm Road in 1999. Not long after they moved into the community of about 30 residences, Preston became alarmed by what he said were chronic problems with local phone service.
Preston began calling the Florida Public Service Commission, local and state politicians, and Sprint to voice his concerns. So far, Preston says, nothing has been accomplished, despite making at least 25 phone calls regarding the problem.
