A cluster I deployed for a client. This is a typical Load Balance cluster (with some degree of Failover) residing in the same network
The initial request arrives at the Gateway server which decides where to send it (based on load capacities on other servers). The Web servers connect to a central Database server and central Storage server (which are typically better fit for redundancy).
Advantages: Some degree of Failover capabilities. Equal distribution of load.
Disadvantages: Single Point of Failure (gateway). Cluster hosted at only one provider.
