    "Writing stories for children to love." I am a published children’s book author who has been writing for children for over 25 years. Many people think writing for children is easy, that all you have to do is “dumb down” the language for kids to understand. On the contrary, there are many things to consider when writing for children that some writers don’t know or think about. Children are a discerning audience and they deserve respect. A 2,000-word picture book for children 4-8 years old is probably not going to sell to publishers. Why? Because the typical children’s picture book is only about 500 words, 1,000 words at the most. (Of course, if you're self-publishing, you're free to break the rules.) If you want to author a rhyming children’s book, make sure the rhyme is perfect otherwise, don’t bother. These are just a few things to think about, there are more. I include these facts in my workshop, So You Want to Write for Children. A well written, engaging story is what children (and parents) look for. As an experienced children’s writer and editor, I can help your story stand out from the rest.
